The first WABES expert workshop in Abidjan was held November 28 to December 1, 2017.

General Objective of the workshops 2017

The overall objective of the workshop is to facilitate networking activities West African Experts in regard to better support the implementation of the Work Program of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), in particular its thematic, methodological and regional/global assessment.
This workshop will also be the occasion to officially launch the project activities in the region, in particular the MSc program.

Specific Objectives of the project
The workshop is aiming at the following specific objectives:
– Give opportunities to experts in the region to exchange information on IPBES-relevant topics and to be informed about IPBES activities and its developments (i.e., introduction to IPBES capacity building, etc.);
– Establish or strengthen connection between West African Biodiversity and Ecosystem Service Experts in the context of IPBES;
– Exchange about the role and relevance of Indigenous Local Knowledge (ILK) and other knowledge available in the region.
– Present the WABES project and launch officially its activities, particularly the MSc program.
